| Using my powers of looking stupid for good! |

Cross-posted from Facebook:
My friend Trisha is doing a 40 mile walk in Washington, DC to raise money for breast cancer research. This is something I've always wanted to do, but I'm not in a place in my life where I can do that now. So after I donated my $20, I kept thinking of ways I could help her out.
After I brainstormed, I came to the conclusion that I have a sense of humor, not a lot of dignity, and lots of friends and family. So after getting Spen's okay (after all, he'll have to look at me), and talking to Trisha, I realized what I could do:
If we can raise $1,000 for Trisha's walk by February 3rd, I will shave my head.
$1,000 is a fair amount of money, but it breaks down to a little less than $5 from every person I know. Even in this economy, most people have $5. That's less than a fast food meal, or in my case, less than three 2-liter bottles of Diet Coke.
Two important women in my life have had breast cancer. They both beat it (remission rocks!), but they had to shoulder their personal fear, the fears of their friends and families, the sickness from both the cancer and the cure, and in one of their cases, the loss of her hair.
Hair is the one vanity most women take for granted. So help me remove my hair, and donate $5 (or more if you're feeling plush) to http://www.avonwalk.org/goto/Trisha.Snow by February 3rd, so no one else has to lose their hair. So no one else has to lose a mother, a sister, a wife, or a friend.
Feel free to link to this entry (I'm making it public) if you think of others who might want to help Trisha meet her goal. Or to anyone who might want to make me bald - either way, I'm good. :) |

How is it that after staying up all night partying and then sleeping it off til noon, that this is the time of year when people decide to set yearly goals for themselves. Wouldn't goal-setting be more productive after perhaps a relaxing or inspirational holiday, instead of the stay-up-all-night-partying holiday?
On that note, it's my turn to write the for the Bailey Quarterly newsletter and I figured I might as well update my journal on the last three months, and take out highlights for the letter.
In October... Ok, so I really cannot remember that far back, I blame school, or maybe it's just last night's party. October was probably dull anyway what with work and school. I do remember that Ryan and I dressed up as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. We put on a layer of tinfoil to cash in on some free Chipotle, and then hung out at the Hartley's place playing games and passing out candy.
In November, I had an obscene amount of homework, but made sure i would have a free weekend for my birthday, and Ryan took me to a resort a few miles from our house for a little mini vacation. It was glorious. It really felt like we were on vacation. Ry picked me up from my evening class, we grabbed some Indian food, and went to the hotel. We spent the next couple days relaxing, book shopping, eating sushi, and watching movies. It was exactly the kind of break I needed right before finals. My husband is the best!
December was insane. We had several performances with our choir, including one at the Mesa Temple Christmas Lights. I had major projects to do (I'm talking hundreds of pages), finals to take, and a fancy party for Ryan's 30th birthday to plan. Amidst the craziness was Mark and Suzanne's wedding, which was absolutely gorgeous. It was truly epic and included pre-ceremony rainbows, and post-First Dance fireworks (both coincidental, but totally gorgeous over Tempe Town Lake).
Sam, Michelle and Meggie come down for Christmas, and it was really great to see them. We went mini golfing for Meg's 13th birthday, and of course attended the Elsberry White Elephant New Year's Eve Eve party. I took home some naughty Smurf boxers, and Ryan's conquest was some fresh emu eggs that we served up for Christmas brunch along with the mandatory biscuits and gravy.
Christmas was exceptional this year. The best gift I got was a recipe book of family recipes that Michelle compiled for me. I've already used two of the recipes for Ryan's party, and they were a big hit. Another big ticket item was the huge, framed photo of China Cove by the world famous Sam Bailey. The picture is gorgeous, and the memory attached to it is one of the most exquisite, peaceful moments of my life.
Of course Christmas day was a little insane, because Ryan and I have so much family. We did brunch and presents with mom, Nick, Mouse, Julie, Sam, Shel, Meg and Mead at our house. And then before we could fully recover from how full we were, it was often to Aunt Dianne's for more food, and more presents, and then off to the Grandma Elsberry's house for even more food, and some hoof & mouth.
On Boxing Day we slept in, and a had a gaggle of Hartleys over for games in the afternoon. The I went with Sam and Ryan to see Avatar (don't waste your time).
I woke up the next day miserably sick, and haven't really fully recovered due mostly to planning and preparation for ( Ryan Bailey's 30th Birthday Party: A Black & White Affair )
